Fall Farmers Markets in North Alabama: Where to Shop This Season

The mornings are finally cooler, the tomatoes are giving way to pumpkins, and Saturday plans are starting to revolve around a coffee and a canvas tote. Fall is one of my favorite times to hit our local farmers markets. The crowds are a little lighter than peak summer, the produce shifts to cozy cooking staples, and you still get that easy, neighborly feeling of running into people you know.

If you're new to North Alabama, markets are also one of the fastest ways to get a feel for a community. Here's where to go this fall.

What's in Season

Expect the table to change as the weeks go on. Fall at local markets shifts toward sweet potatoes, leafy greens, winter squash and pumpkins, plus the honey, eggs, meats and baked goods that stick around all season. Go early if you have your eye on something specific. The good stuff moves fast. 

Huntsville

The Greene Street Market at Nativity

Downtown Huntsville, Greene Street at Eustis Avenue

September runs 3pm to sundown, and the 2026 Holiday Markets are set for November 14 and December 12 from 2:00 to 4:30. 208 Eustis Avenue

This is the downtown Thursday tradition. It's producer-only, and there's a Children's Tent each week with crafts and hands-on activities, dogs on short leashes are welcome, and SNAP/EBT is accepted along with Double Up Food Bucks.

Madison County Farmers Market

1022 Cook Avenue, Huntsville
Saturdays, 8am to 2pm, through November 21, 2026 Madison County, AL

A true piece of local history. It dates back to as early as 1814, when it operated out of the courthouse basement, and has been at its Cook Avenue home since 1984.

The perfect Sunday afternoon stroll. Local farms and makers set up together, with open green space, public art and nearby restaurants making it easy to linger.

Ayers Farm Farmers Market

Open almost year-round

Your fall porch décor headquarters. Ayers is the go-to for a prized pumpkin in fall and a Christmas tree once December rolls around. Check their Facebook page for current daily hours.

Madison

Madison City Farmers Market

Saturdays, October 3 to November 21, 9am to Noon Hville Blast

Mark your calendar: Pumpkin Fest is October 17 and the Holiday Market is November 21. This one is producer-only too, and everything sold is grown or crafted within 100 miles. The market is pet friendly as long as pets are leashed, and there's plenty of parking.

Decatur

Morgan County/Decatur Farmers Market

211 First Avenue SE, Downtown Decatur
Hours vary by season; check the market's site for fall days

Established in 1937, it's one of the oldest markets in the state, and it hosts a Jack-o-lantern contest in the fall. The newer facility is a big upgrade too. It opened in May 2025, and it's an easy hop from Priceville for a Saturday morning run.

Hartselle

Hartselle Farmers Market

Small, simple, and all about the growers. Everything is limited to produce, plants, honey, USDA inspected meat, eggs and certain labeled home processed foods.

A Few Tips Before You Go

Bring small bills, since not every vendor takes cards. Pack a sturdy bag (pumpkins are heavier than you think). And talk to the growers. They'll tell you what's best this week and how to cook it.
