August in North Alabama always feels a little bittersweet. Summer is winding down, the kids are heading back to class, and somehow there is still a full calendar of reasons to get out of the house. If you are trying to figure out where to eat, what to do this weekend, or how to sneak in one more taste of summer before fall football takes over, we pulled together our favorite happenings around Huntsville, Madison, and Decatur this month.

Eat Your Way Through Culinary Month

North Alabama takes food seriously in August, and this year is no exception.

Huntsville Culinary Month + Restaurant Week All month long, with Restaurant Week running August 14 to 23 Sign up for the free Rocket City Dish Pass and start working your way through dining deals at restaurants all over the area. Huntsville Tea Festival August 15, at Annabella A full market of tea makers, tastings, and botanical wellness vendors. The first 500 attendees walk away with a swag bag, so get there early. Details and tickets

Weekend Fun for Every Kind of Family

Rocket City Octane Auto Show August 15, 10am to 4pm at the Von Braun Center North Alabama's premier indoor auto show. Expect 150-plus vehicles, contests, and enough shine to keep car lovers of every age entertained for hours. More info

The Moonlight Market August 14 (and every second Friday through October), downtown Huntsville More than 40 local artisan vendors, live music, and lamplight in the Downtown Square. This is one of our favorite ways to spend a Friday evening. Learn more

Downtown Food Truck Rallies August 21, Big Spring Park A rotating lineup of local food trucks serving everything from street eats to sweet treats. Bring a blanket and make an evening of it. Details here

90s Adult Field Day August 22, Dublin Park in Madison Throwback games, good energy, and an event designed to be fun and inclusive for people of all abilities. Get your squad together for this one. Event info

Live Music and Big Nights Out

Gladys Knight August 15, Von Braun Center, doors at 6:30pm Seven Grammy wins and a lifetime of hits. If you love a good night out, this is the one to grab tickets for. Tickets and info

Goo Goo Dolls at Orion Amphitheater August 18, 7:30pm Iris, Slide, Black Balloon, and more, live under the stars with Neon Trees opening. Get tickets

805 After Five August 20, Butler Green Park at Campus 805 A free concert series with food trucks, yard games, and this month's featured artist, The Bends. Every third Thursday through October. More details

Third Thursdays on Main August 20, downtown Madison Extended shopping hours, pop-up vendors, live music, and local businesses showing off what makes historic downtown Madison so special. Learn more

Community and Connection

U.S. Space & Rocket Center Biergarten August 6, 13, 20, and 27 Free to attend, with authentic German food, beer, and live music under the Saturn V. A fun way to spend a Saturday evening with friends. Details here

Farm-to-Table: A Table of Neighbors August 27 An evening celebrating Madison County agriculture and the farmers and neighbors who make our local food scene what it is. Locally inspired meal, good conversation, and a genuine celebration of community. More info

Story Financial Partners Bowl August 29, Joe Davis Stadium College football is back. Watch North Alabama take on Samford in the stadium's first ever Division I football game. If you needed an excuse to say football season has officially started, this is it. Game info

Morgan County Schools head back on August 18, so if you are in Priceville, Decatur, Hartselle, or the surrounding areas, mark your calendars for early mornings and school zone traffic. Here is to a smooth start to the school year for all our North Alabama families.
